PROJECT WORK - THE PLASTIC NEGATIVE
An ongoing preoccupation
Over recent years I seem to have acquired a particular attraction to plastic, which is, of course, a material that can be found in abundance. Whereas glass divides the inside from the outside in a smooth flat fashion, plastic sheeting, whether plain or in colour, often seduces with its folds and wrinkly, almost organic patterns.
Given our growing awareness of the damage plastic inflicts on our environment, and the generally recognised need for us to transition away from its use, I have decided to give this need visual expression by converting images featuring plastic sheeting in shop windows into digital negatives. Each of these images thus stands for a ‘plastic negative’.
